A cough could either be due to cold, chest infection, allergy, or acute bronchitis. Severe coughing would be painful and irritating.   • By inhaling the steam. Fill some water in a basin and add 3-4 drops of peppermint or eucalyptus oil.
  • By making Herbal Tea: Boiling a bunch of Tulsi leaves in water and drinking the mixture when it is warm.
  • By mixing a teaspoon of honey to a cup of grape juice is recommended for instant cough relief.
  • By adding ginger juice to a teaspoon of honey is also effective in stopping the cough.
  • By using Nyquil also helps to stop a cough. Also, check how long does it take for nyquil to kick in your system.

The above mentioned tips are all home made remedies to stop a cough during the initial stage. However, if a cough persists, it is always advisable to consult a doctor before taking any self-medication as an overdose would lead to serious health problems.
